Restylane / Perlane
|
are two products, each containing Hyaluronic acid, a natural skin constituent. As you age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in your skin decreases, resulting in the appearance of deeper lines and new wrinkles. Since this substance is identical in all species, allergy to these products is exceedingly rare. Skin tests, therefore, are not required prior to treatment. Consequently, patients may be treated immediately, if they wish. Individuals who are allergic to collagen may safely receive hyaluronic acid gels which are useful in treating skin lines, folds, and lip enhancement.
One treatment may not be enough for particularly deep smile lines and a second treatment may be required 2 to 4 weeks later. For most people, however, a top-up injection is needed every 4 to 6 months to maintain the desired level of correction.
One of these products was developed for the treatment of very fine lines (Restylane Fine Lines), and another for treatment of very deep lines (Perlane) in which the filling capacity of Restylane has been custom tailored to the problem at hand.
Some temporary swelling, redness, or bruising may follow treatment.
