 Collagen is a natural substance manufactured from purified animal collagen that can help fill out creases and smooth wrinkles. Dr. Pollack was one of the first physicians in North America to begin using this product when it first became available in 1981. It is injected beneath the skin to plump up various facial lines, wrinkles, and folds.
Evolence, the preferred collagen injection at this time, is made from porcine (pig) collagen, using a new patented manufacturing process that allows the product to persist from 8-12 months, before being eliminated by natural skin processes.
The areas most commonly treated with Evolence injections include nasal furrows, deep smile lines, frown lines and small lips. This material is biodegradable and improvement lasts for about 8 months. Normal activities can be resumed immediately following injections.
Some temporary, mild swelling, bruising, or lumpiness may occur after treatment. There may also be some slight bruising which can be covered with makeup.
